Orbán: without Christian culture, there can be no freedom in Europe

Hungary celebrated its national day on March 15th. On this occasion, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized that in these times we are fighting not only for our homeland, but for our Christian culture as well.

March 15th, 1848 marked the beginning of a year-long revolution and civil war against the rule of the Habsburg Monarchy. Though it is true that it was eventually crushed by the combined forces of the Austrian and Russian empire, it is a key element of modern Hungarian identity. It is also worth mentioning that under its fifty-year reign, not even the Communist regime dared to sweep March 15th under the rug.

In his celebratory speech, the PM said that it was the Hungarians who fought until their last breath in 1848 and again in 1956. It is their example that gives hope and strength to the Hungarians of today who stopped the invasion of migrants at the southern border of the country.

We are the ones who want a strong Europe, strong member states and strong European leaders, who will take help to where it is needed instead of inviting trouble into the continent.”

The truth is that Hungarians have a right to preserve their homeland and their way of life as they see fit, according to Viktor Orbán. This is what people of Europe need to realize.

The European people can only be happy if they have the freedom to decide the destiny of their countries.”

After all, only Hungary asked its people whether they wanted to invite people from a foreign culture. Nowhere else in Europe did the leaders think that this was a good idea for some reason.

We encourage the Europeans to let go of their blindness.”

According to the PM, they must realize that in the current situation, failing to protect Christian culture means giving up on Europe. The eventual consequence of such a mistake will result in Europeans losing Europe.

In 1848, Hungarians took a stand against the influence of a foreign empire. Today, the fight is similar: in 2019, the goal is to end visions of a European Renaissance and dreams of „more Europe” in general.

Hungary before everything, God above everyone”,

– as PM Orbán drew his conclusions in his 1848 speech.
