The meeting between the Viktor Orbán and Salvini led to an agreement on the importance of strong, sovereign nation states, preserving Europe’s Christian culture and defending Europe’s borders.
The border inspection was followed by a joint press conference held with the Italian deputy PM, where PM Orbán told that both of them were convinced that the bedrock of strong Europe was strong and successful nation states. The continent must prioritize a European culture founded on Christian values, and Europe’s borders must be protected against “the invasion of migrants,” Viktor Orbán said.
Later in the day, after a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér, Salvini expressed his thanks to Hungary for staving of human trafficking by its swift actions, adding that Italy and Hungary fully agree that after the May 27th elections the “new Europe” will defend its outer borders both on the ground and at sea.
Minister Pintér said Hungary and Italy are also of the same opinion on how to defend Europe’s borders from the illegal mass inflow of people, terrorists and other unwanted persons. He also praised Italy’s efforts in stopping illegal migration in the Mediterranean, actions by which Italy is defending the entire European Union
