In his interview, Orbán emphasized the importance of László Trócsányi (former Minister of Justice) being officially named EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, as this portfolio consists of maintaining the connection with Western Balkans, the Ukraine and other Caucasian countries.
Orbán also made a point for the expansion of the EU, even though according to him, Western European countries are tired of the idea of expansion. However, if Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia was part of the EU, then illegal immigration wouldn’t have been such a problem for Germany in 2015.
The Hungarian leader expressed sadness that the portfolio of Protecting our European Way of Life was met with harsh criticism. His belief is that the number one priority of every politician is to protect the way of life of the people. As he put it, the argument is most likely related to how one should assess immigration: as a fairy tale, a source of danger, or the change of the way of life.
Finally, Orbán responded to Jean-Claude Juncker, failed President of the European Commission, who called the Hungarian PM a „blind national politician”. As Orbán said in his retort, the EU is built from nations, and the identity of those nations.
A Hungarian does not want to scrape his heritage off. Nothing is more important than being born as a Hungarian. I am European because I am Hungarian. If I wasn’t Hungarian, I couldn’t be European.„
